At Irvine International Academy, students learn English and Mandarin immersively while developing a deep appreciation for Chinese language and culture. Program Model
At the elementary level, IIA implements a 50/50 Mandarin Dual Language Immersion model, providing approximately half of instruction in Mandarin and half in English. Our TK-8 program is intentionally designed to support continuous language growth and world readiness. Students progress from foundational oral language and literacy skills in the primary grades to advanced reading, writing, presentations, and academic discourse in middle school. Core Mandarin curricular resources include:
- Easy Steps to Chinese for Kids (TK supplemental print materials)
- Meizhou Chinese (K-Grade 5)
- Easy Steps to Chinese (Grades 6-8)
Student progress is monitored through:
- Classroom formative assessments
- Level Learning Mandarin Literacy Diagnostics
- AAPPL Assessment (Grades 3-8)
- Easy Steps to Chinese for Kids（TK 辅助教材）
- 《美洲华语》（Meizhou Chinese，幼儿园至五年级）
- Easy Steps to Chinese（六至八年级）
